Greta Garbo was born Greta Louisa Gustafsson in Stockholm, Sweden on September 18, 1905. She appeared in some 31 motion pictures from 1921 until 1944. While many of the classic performers featured in Star Galleries may be unknown to young movie-goers today, the legend of Greata Gatbo lives on. She was one of the most fascinating movie actresses of all time. |

Greta Garbo starred in one of the first remakes of a major motion picture. In 1927 she played Anna Karenina in the silent film, Love, which was based onTolstoy's novel, Anna Karenina. Her co-stars in 1927 were John Gilbert and Philippe deLacy. In 1935 she remade the movie as a talkie (then titled Anna Karenina) with Frederic March and Freddie Bartholomew. |
