Clara Bow was born Clara Gordon Bow in Brooklyn, New York on July 29, 1905. Famous as the "It" Girl for her role in the 1927 movie of the same name, she appeared in some 58 movies between 1922 and 1933. The ultimate "flapper," she received 45,000 letters a month at the height of her career. Sadly, when "talkies" arrived, her popularity wained. Her thick, Brooklyn accent was not comptible with sound. She retired from the screen at age 26. She was confined to a sanitarium in her later life, and died of a heart attack in West Los Angeles, CA on Sept. 26, 1965. Her legacy lives on.
